This semester I have discovered the importance of criticism. Peer review is one way to get feedback on your work and learn how you can improve. In the beginning I relied heavily on peer review, but as the semester passed I knew what to look for when correcting my own work, or doing a peer review for someone else. Getting another opinion on something never hurts, especially in the writing world. Sometimes you miss grammar mistakes that will make or break your paper, but someone else spots it. That is why peer review is beneficial and recommended.

PEER REVIEW

PEER Review

Without peer review, our "final products" would most likely still contain a whole lot of errors. Below I have added a button with the peer review that someone else did on one of my papers attached. There are a variety of ways to edit someone's work and critique. The person who did mine chose to highlight things and add comments about what they highlighted on the side.

After getting the peer review, I changed my work in the ways that was recommend to me. I personally enjoy getting at least one person to look over my work and make suggestions for me. I especially liked getting peer reviews because they were done by my classmates who had a better idea of the assignment and what was expected. Positive comments are always nice, but I never take offense to constructive criticism. I enjoy finding ways to improve my work to fit the needs of someone who has a totally different perspective than me.

The second button on this page that is listed below, is a peer review that was done by me. Instead of linking the button to the complete peer review I chose to focus on a couple of the peer review questions that are used to guide us through our reviews. In the beginning of the semester I didn't really know how to criticize someone's work. I was scared I was going to hurt their feelings and I didn't know exactly what to say or what I was looking for. I learned that criticism usually has positive results and helps the writer out. If you tell them that their work is perfect and nothing needs to be changed then they are going to miss an opportunity for improvement. It's always nice to have a second person's view on things because sometimes their ideas are different than yours and that is okay. Writing needs to explore different perspectives in order to catch the attention of those people who have different perspectives than you.
