Before taking this course I thought I was a fairly good writer. I enjoyed reading and writing since I was younger and I feel like doing it so much as a kid has affected my level of writing now as a young adult. However, this class has opened my eyes to ways that my writing could improve. I have learned about myself as a writer just by taking this class. I have gained knowledge on the planning process and the different conventions you should use when writing a paper if you want it to be effective. Not only have a learned many new skills in this class, but I have actually had fun doing it since writing has always interested me.
FINAL REFLECTION
Final reflection
UWRT 1102 has benefited me in countless ways. I came into the class knowing the bare minimum about the writing process. In high school we had to write a lot of papers, but they were very literal, on the surface writings. The writings we have done in this class have challenged me to think in a intricate manner.
I have actually learned a lot about myself from this course. I now know more about my interests and passions. I am aware of the things that I want to share with an audience because they mean something to me. Although this class has required a lot of work, it has sharpened my mind and writing skills. From analyzing things to learning the most effective form of written communication, this class has taught me things that I will use in the real world.
I notice myself being more critical of myself when writing things for other classes now. I also find myself noticing things in other people's work that I would have never noticed before taking this class. For an example, I am able to dig deep and find the writer's exigency and use it to conclude more. I have become more systematic when reading and writing. I better understand different genres and their purposes through the evaluation of writing skills that we have learned in this class.
Writing is a way to freely express yourself in a formal or informal way. However, freedom is limited and determined based on the type of piece you are writing. There is a process to a the chaos of writing. I have learned that it is better to get your thoughts out first and go back and finalize everything last. You can incorporate the writing process and rhetorical tools into your writing when you are done getting your ideas out. I love to write, so I found this class interesting. I feel that I have really improved over this semester and I will take everything I have learned in this class with me long after the semester is over.
